Client review | Craig & Debbie

Some lovely words from Craig and Debbie who had a Christmas wedding at The Orangery, Whittlebury Hall

“Sarah certainly has the “wow” factor. From the very first time you meet Sarah she displays professionalism, individuality, innovation, flexilbilty and a unique personal touch, that is second to none.

“We were thrilled with our wedding photographs and would thoroughly recommend Sarah for any occassion.

“You only have to take a look at any of Sarah’s work to appreciate her diverse, yet natural flair for the art of photography.”

Happy Mothers’ Day

Don’t forget Mothers’ Day today folks ;0)

I thought I’d share one of my most precious photographs with you. Mum and I on my wedding day. I hadn’t thought about it before the wedding and not even when Steve and I first had our photos back after the wedding. It was only a few years later when I was looking through our album and reminiscing that I realised how important it is to have a photo with your Mum on your wedding day. No particular reason for it hitting me then, I just realised – this is a photo that I would be really sad to be without. So the Bride and her Mum is always on my list of must have shots on a wedding day!

Ceremony photography rules

It’s a funny thing, photographs of a wedding ceremony. Because this is the main event, it’s the reason for everything else. And yet it’s often the case that you’re not allowed to take photographs.

Every Vicar, Priest, Rabbi, Registrar is allowed to set their own rules and regulations about photography of a wedding ceremony. They determine whether it is or isn’t allowed, and what moments can be captured. In most cases it’s possible to photograph all the key moments, from a distance and without flash. Sometimes I can be really lucky and get close enough for details like this …

But sadly there’s sometimes a ‘no photography’ rule and you can’t shoot anything, apart from the Bride entering and a staged signing of the registrar after the fact. Yes, a wedding is a serious (but happy!) occasion and not a photo shoot. But still, why wouldn’t you want one of the most important moments of your life recorded to cherish afterwards? As long as your photographer is discreet, doesn’t move around and doesn’t use flash you won’t know that they are there. So there’s no problem, in my opinion ;0)

So I’m really pleased that Northamptonshire County Council Registration Service have reviewed their rules on photography for civil wedding ceremonies. Until recently you could only take photographs before and after the ceremony. But this has now changed and the exchange of rings and the first kiss can also be photographed. The Church of England are also becoming more open to photography. Great news!

I think it’s a shame that there are no consistent rules though. If having photographs of your ceremony is important to you I would suggest speaking with your Vicar or Registrar early on. Find out where the land lies, what the rules are and if they’re not accomodating, then explain how important it is to you to have a photographic record of your wedding ceremony. I’ve often been able to push the boundaries a little just by asking, discussing how I work and explaining that it’s my couple’s wish to have photographs. Don’t feel you have to just accept ‘no photography’.

Here’s a pic from Tony and Zoe’s wedding at Kelmarsh Hall. They were one of the first couples in Northamptonshire to be allowed to have photographs during their civil ceremony …

Happy Spring :0)

Today is officially the first day of Spring. And wow, what a lovely day it is. It’s been a lovely few days actually. Joyous sunshine and the garden bursting back into action. Oh dear, that means grass mowing again soon! And all those new little frogs and toads can stay away too. Honestly they follow me everywhere. Eurgh! But summer is just around the corner, hoo-ray!

So, onto some pictures (which fit very nicely with it being Spring today!). One of my wedding couples from last year (Rob & Ali who married at Notley Abbey) contacted me to organise a family portrait shoot as a present for Rob’s parents who are both celebrating special birthdays this year!
