Thomas Oliver Brooke – baby photos

I photographed Russell and Lucy Brooke’s wedding last summer and was thrilled to take some photos of their new baby boy, Thomas Oliver. It’s so nice to capture the next big moment in their lives.

Thomas is the most contented baby and was very happy to have his photograph taken. Then when it all got a bit exhausting he slept happily in Mum’s arms. He’s such a cutie!

Mr & Mrs. Constable

Philip and Maria’s wedding took me back to the church where I shot my very first wedding – St. George the Martyr in Wootton, Northampton. And their reception was at the beautiful Highgate House in Creaton; the last I was there was for my Brother and Sister in Law’s wedding and this was the day that kicked off my thoughts about a career in wedding photography. So it was quite a poignant day for me and lovely to reflect on how much has happened since then. I admit to shedding a tear or two in the car between church and reception! The rest of the time I was too busy to think about it which is probably just as well LOL

Philip and Maria gave me another memorable wedding to mark the occasion. There was an unusual but very lovely platinum and pink colour scheme, a vintage car with perfect curves, details galore and they’d done the most amazing job of turning a plain conference room into a really pretty dinner setting.

Snowy white wedding, white album

James and Elena had the perfect white wedding at Rushton Hall, complete with fairytale snow. Only a white leather Queensberry photo album would befit such a day. James and Elena opted for a 14×10″ album, with matted pages, in white of course, with white protective edges and corners.

Ollie & Gemma’s military wedding

Ollie and Gemma’s wedding was perfect in every way. I had the best time photographing their day. They’re such a beautiful couple and absolutely adore each other. It really was a pleasure.

It was a military wedding which always has some unique photo opportunities. Exiting the church through a Guard of Honour is such an iconic moment. So when I met with Ollie and Gemma at our pre-wedding planning meeting I suggested that we ask all their guests to line the path after the Guard and throw confetti as they made their exit as husband and wife. I had the shots I wanted in mind and with all the military briefings that went on in the church before the ceremony ‘Operation Confetti’ came nicely together!

The sun shone all day but there were some blustery moments. Gemma and Ollie were knelt at the altar for the prayers, when the biggest gust of wind came through the door from the right and blew Gemma’s veil completely horizontal! Good job the pins held securely! Gemma also had a fight on her hands as they walked down the guest lined church path but carried it off in style.Veils and wind are a fabulous combination for injecting some life into your wedding photographs.

Needless to say I had fun shooting lots of details. Claire Bradford’s floristry was amazing. And kudos to Ollie & Gemma (and their families) for hand-crafting all the wedding stationery!

The speeches didn’t disappoint either. Gemma’s Dad delivered the most moving Father of the Bride’s speech I’ve had the pleasure to hear. All the speeches were great actually. Ollie’s was very heart-felt and Charlie, Ollie’s Best Man, had everyone in stitches!

A swing band ended the celebrations in style. And some sunset shots ended the photography in style.

5 steps to the perfect photo kiss

Today is National Kissing Day (there really is a day for everything isn’t there? LOL) so what better time to share some tips on kissing in photos.

The line ‘a kiss is just a kiss’ from Casablanca is of course, quite wrong. Especially when it comes to capturing kisses on camera.

Let’s take a ‘normal’ kiss – chances are a photo of this would show you both with squished noses, distorted lips and different expressions. Not a good look even for Brad and Angelina.

So I go for the ‘almost’ kiss – going in for a smooch but stopping just short of actually touching lips.

Here’s how to perfect your camera kissing:

  1. Close your eyes
  2. Relax your lips so that you’re just breathing through your mouth (this might feel odd but it looks incredibly sexy)
  3. Go in to kiss but don’t actually touch lips, instead hover about half an inch apart
  4. Think back to the moment you first kissed, with all its tentativeness, excitement and passion
  5. Bring a hand up to the side of the face or pull your partner towards you to add more passion to the shot
