Oakham Castle wedding photographs – Greg & Lisa

Oakham Castle was a new venue for me. It’s in the centre of Oakham and has a huuuuge collection of horseshoes which adorn every square inch of space. And what a joy it was to work with the registrars there. Such friendly people and really accommodating of photography during the ceremony. Combined with Greg and Lisa being so full of happiness and emotion, it meant I was able to capture some really lovely moments from the front of the ceremony room.

Our good fortune continued through the day with gorgeous autumnal sunshine. Lisa and Greg had chosen shades of cream and chocolate, mixed with dusky peach and rose, which worked beautifully for the time of year and the surroundings of their reception venue, The George of Stamford.

The speeches were highly amusing with lots of laughter and props, cue Greg’s pink cowboy hat! Followed by some very impressive dance moves!

Queensberry wedding album flies the nest

Kevin and Debbie chose a 14×10″ Queensberry album in sandstone contemporary leather to show off the photographs from their silver wedding vow renewal at Ettington Park.

They went for the flushmount style pages, which have a protective coating to prevent them from dust and finger-marking. I love this style and although I stick to my clean simple design ethos which allows the images to speak for themselves, I do like to add little flourishes with ‘chapter’ pages and text. It was a lovely thick album with around 130 images, which gave them a strong mix of portraits, candids and details to tell the story of their day.

These albums come in a gorgeous velvet pouch but Kevin and Debbie also decided to have a carry case to make transporting and caring for their album easier.

Italy wedding photography part 2: the wedding

Bren and Julie’s ceremony goes down as one of my favourites.

They had ‘officially’ married earlier in the week at the town hall, which is a requirement of the local marriage laws. So the ceremony at Villa Giona was more of a celebration and confirmation of their marriage and could be exactly as they wanted.

They chose a fairly traditional order of service. A string quartet entertained the guests while awaiting the Bride. And Julie, who looked stunning in a Jenny Packham dress, walked down the beautifully flower clad aisle to a harpist. Bren’s Dad was the officiant which made everyone feel really relaxed. Instead of hymns some very talented friends sang their hearts out. The bridal party’s creation and reading of ‘love is…’ quotes went down a storm with a few tears and much laughter. Bren and Julie then exchanged a collection of gifts, brought to them by the children at the wedding. These gifts were small things that had significant personal meaning to them, such as their baby daughter’s first pair of shoes to represent what a wonderful father Julie thinks Bren is. In place of the register singing, Julie had created a wedding ‘book’ which contained all the words, readings and songs from their ceremony, which they signed as a lasting memory of their day.

Italy wedding photography part 1: The BBQ

Travelling to Italy with good friend and fellowess photographer Rosie, to shoot Bren and Julie’s gorgeous wedding in Italy, was such a career highlight.

The celebrations were held over two days at the beautiful Villa Giona, a 16th century villa in the famous wine producing area of Valpolicella. Rosie and I were so excited when we arrived. The villa itself is spectacular and the scenery just stunning with beautiful gardens, fountains, olive groves, plane trees and vineyards full of ripe grapes. Bliss. Except for the heat … it was seriously HOT shooting at 100mph in the scorching sun!

A relaxed BBQ the day before the wedding kicked things off in style and gave us a chance to explore the venue and get to know some of the guests before the wedding.

Marquee + farm + helicopter – the wedding of Tom & Caroline

When I met with Tom and Caroline for their pre-wedding photography planning meeting the conversation went a little like this: “We’ve had an idea!” says Caroline. “Hit me with it” I replied. “How do you feel about going up in a helicopter?” she asks. “Woo hoo!” says I!

This was to be a surprise to their guests so Tom and Caroline left the church by car, closely followed by moi, to meet the helipcopter at the local rugby field. The three of us enjoyed a flight of stunning views to the beautiful garden of a friend of theirs for some photographs. The helicopter then ‘dropped me off’ (!!) back at the rugby ground and circled for a few minutes, while I raced to the reception to get photos of their landing. Pweh! Logistically it was tricky but fun all the way.

The reception was in a marquee at Caroline’s parents’ farm. The marquee came together fabulously with the tables named after breeds of pig, percy pig favours, corn and apples adorning the flowers and ears of corn hand-tied to the napkins.
