Edinburgh engagement photographs – Nick & Vicky
The small matter of a volcano wasn’t going to stop me getting to Edinburgh for Nick and Vicky’s pre-wedding shoot. I have to wonder why I didn’t just book the train in the first place – it was lovely to while away a few hours looking out to the countryside.
I’d been looking forward to their shoot for some time and it didn’t disappoint.
I travelled the day before the shoot so that I could recce some locations. In true Scottish style it rained and hailed! And yes, like a true Brit I was unprepared for the weather, thinking that my camera bag was heavy enough without a brolly too!
I wanted to give an authentic Edinburgh feel to the photographs rather than anything too touristy and found some great little cobbled alleyways, tartan filled shop fronts and lots of amazing architecture. And of course, no Edinburgh shoot would be complete without a photo of the castle!

Client review | Ian & Laura

We have the best clients. Le sigh…
“Sarah is fantastic and I would recommend her unreservedly. My husband and I did lots of research before choosing our photographer as we didn’t want anything too cheesy or anyone that would be too pushy!
“Sarah was great from start to finish, the little touches like the pre-shoot and the timetables of the day she puts together really make all the difference. Sarah did an excellent job of guiding us through the once daunting prospect of our wedding photography – we really enjoyed her help and guidance.
“The photos from our day are stunning, I look at them and can’t believe that beautiful bride is me!
“Sarah is exactly the sort of person you need on a day when everyone is stressing and faffing because she is so calm and reassuring. You feel completely comfortable with her and she seems genuinely enthusiastic/excited about your big day (which must be a challenge if it’s your day job).
“We’ve had nothing but compliments for the work she’s done, we both felt very at ease on the day and we quite honestly couldn’t have asked for more. Would recommend to everyone.
“Definitely book Sarah – she may not be the cheapest but I’m convinced you couldn’t get better photos or a better service anywhere else :)”

Engagement portraits – Glen & Claire
Claire was a bridesmaid at Tony and Zoe’s wedding last year so I was delighted when she got in touch to book me for her wedding to Glen. And double delighted when she said the wedding would be at Rushton Hall! We met last week for their pre-wedding shoot and they were both naturals in front of the camera.

Pet photography – Ben, Amy and Harry
‘They’ say you should never work with animals. But Harry was the perfect model!
Harry is the beautiful pooch of Ben and Amy, who are getting married at Notley Abbey later this year. He’s such a big part of their lives that we did two pre-wedding shoots – one for just the two of them, which allowed them to focus on learning how to stand etc, and one with Harry, so that he could also share in the wedding preparations. Armed with plenty of treats we went for a walk at a local park and created some gorgeous family photos, my favourite of which is the last in this set where Harry is laying amongst the leaves. The colours tone together so beautifully.

Interviewed by The Photography Parlour
The Photography Parlour is an online community for aspiring professional photographers, hosted by my very good friend Rosie Parsons.
It’s an awesome resource with lots of interviews, features and advice on everything you’d need to know about turning pro and building a business. The site is rich with interviews and features from some amazing professional photographers around the world, covering all genres from weddings to food and papparazzi. It’s also a place where those just starting out can share their experiences about their first major assignments. The first few commissions and early business decisions are incredibly tough (I remember them well!) so I think it’s a great place to share with others who are going through the same things.
I was thrilled when Rosie asked if I’d do an interview. It made think though, and that doesn’t happen very often! It’s an insight into me, my style and experiences as a pro photographer. Make some Earl Grey and read my interview.
