Eltham Palace wedding photography – Nick and Vicky

Vicky and Nick’s wedding was one of the most hotly anticipated dates of the year, not least because it had been in the diary for over two years! But this most fabulous wedding must have taken some planning. I was bowled over with all the amazing floristry and loved the unusual aubergine and lime colour scheme.

I started the day with Vicky and her bridesmaids getting ready whilst my second shooter Rosie was with Nick and the boys. It’s great to be able to capture preparations of both the Bride and Groom and is one of the main benefits of having a two photographer team.

The ceremony took place at Holy Trinity Church, Eltham and was followed by a reception at Eltham Palace.

Eltham Palace, an English Heritage property, was the childhood home of Henry VIII and still has medieval remains intact including the magnificent Great Hall. It was later extended by the Courtauld family in a decadent Art Deco style.

Narrowing down the locations to use is the biggest challenge for a wedding photographer at Eltham Palace, particularly with the vast size of the venue which means it takes some time to move between each location (especially in a wedding dress!). Even with an entire day to photograph a Bride and Groom you still wouldn’t tick everything off! So we ended up deciding to split the photographs and do just a few in the gardens during the reception and then some interior shots after dinner.

The gardens are particulaly beautiful at this time of year with lots of colour, especially in the dry section of the moat which made the perfect spot for family photographs. It was lovely to have such a beautiful sunny day to enjoy the grounds.

And how luxurious were those bathrooms?! I had some serious fun in there. Rather hot though, with under-floor heating that can’t be turned off!

Engagement photo shoot – Mark & Juanita

Not quite the warm, sunny day we’ve been used to of late, in fact this was more umbrellas and thick jumpers, but Mark, Juanita and I had lots of fun on their pre-wedding shoot. Like many couples Mark and Juanita were quite nervous about being photographed but soon relaxed and we were able to create some great shots despite the cold and rain.

A wedding photography recce in Lavenham, Suffolk

As a wedding photographer I loved Lavenham. It would have been a shame not to make the most of a sunny day there, so after James and Julia’s engagement photography session I took some time to explore the area.

Lavenham is the perfect medieval town and felt like something out of a children’s story book with its crooked houses and perfect gardens. It dates from around 1500 and is renowned for being at the centre of England’s cloth making industry at that time.

I lost myself with my camera in the labyrynth of narrow streets, which are full of typical Suffolk charm with warm colour washed walls and timbered facades. I went round in a few circles actually! But every time saw something new.

Engagement photos of James and Julia, in Lavenham

James and Julia will be getting married at The Swan at Lavenham, Suffolk and I met them there on a beautifully sunny day for their ‘all-in-one’ pre wedding planning meeting, portrait shoot and venue recce.

Lavenham is beautiful (more on that in another blog post) and I had the loveliest time exploring and shooting in the sunshine. Even treated myself to a cream tea after the shoot. Well, it was a long drive back! My job is so hard sometimes!
