A marquee wedding – Richard and Henrietta

Usually I don’t bother following the weather forecasts. You’re gonna get what you’re gonna get. But I have to admit to hoping that it would at least be dry for Rich and Hen’s wedding as they’d chosen to have a marquee reception and really wanted to have a garden party feel to their day. The forecast wasn’t good but come the day, we were blessed. The sun shone big time!

The wedding took place at Mears Ashby church which is beautiful inside with lovely architecture. Dominique, my second shooter and trusty sidekick, photographed from the back getting some of the big dramatic architectural based photographs that I love, whilst I got some close-up, intimate pictures of the ceremony from the front. I had to smile when I saw that the Vicar was using an iPhone as a prompt for his words (behind his bible noone else could see it, made me chuckle!).

After the ceremony we headed to Hen’s family home just 5 minutes away. Everyone seemed to have a really great time enjoying champagne and canapes in the sunshine. A wedding at home always makes for a relaxed atmosphere. Lots of personal touches added to this as well including Hen’s homemade wedding cake and the horse racing table plan, a passion of Rich’s.

After dinner one end of the marquee was opened-up to reveal a secret dance-floor, with blacked out walls and lots of twinkly lights. The perfect backdrop for a first dance. Then on came the flashing lights and some serious shapes – this crowd liked to party!

Oh, and there was a gorgeous gorgeous sunset which always make me very happy indeed.

Wedding at The Old Bridge Hotel, Huntingdon

I think you all know by now that I love photographing details. Shoes, dresses, flowers; I love them all. So Rich and Amy’s rings were a particular treat for me. Amy dazzled me with diamonds and Rich chose an unusual wide band engraved on the outside with the date of their wedding in Roman numerals. Gorg-e-ous.

The ceremony was at St Mary’s church in Potton. It’s beautiful inside and the sun flooded through the windows. It had been raining almost non-stop for 3 weeks in the run up to the day so we were all quite relieved! I love working as a two photographer team during the ceremony as you get two completely different points of view. And while I was told quite firmly that no photographs could be taken of the signing of the register, David was able to get some shots from a distance with his zoom lens – and who would want to miss out on photos of those first few minutes as husband and wife? Photos 13 and 14 below are two of my favourites from the day – you don’t even need to see Amy and Rich’s faces to feel their emotion. Just look at their hands.

The reception was at The Old Bridge Hotel, in Huntingdon. This was my first wedding there and I hope there will be more to come. It has so many options for a wedding photographer. There are some lovely photos to be had by the river with weeping willows and crumbly walls. Then there’s the purple sofa and funky silver wallpaper. Every wedding should have those! And the last photo involved a mini mountain which Amy climbed like a trooper in her heels! Got to love a Bride who will do whatever it takes to get great photos!

A wedding at Newbold Grounds, Staverton

I think it’s important to have a strong network of photographers who you can call on if you’re sick or in need of an extra pair of hands, so I was only too pleased to help when a fellow local photographer called to see if I was able to help her shoot Ed and Louise’s wedding. The word ‘teepee’ had nothing to do with it of course.

Louise was setting off from home, which was only 2 minutes from me, so I started with coverage of the girls getting ready. Louise lives in a lovely Victorian town house with beautiful big windows and the light coming in was gorgeous (yes, I’m a sad, geeky photographer, but good light is so important to photography). I was getting some lovely contrasty pictures because of this so decided to try something a bit dramatic with my black and white conversions.

There was a super strict no photography rule at the church which was a shame (for Ed and Louise more than me) but I managed to sneak one during the hymn!

After some photographs at the church it was off to Newbold Grounds, which is a new location for marquee events. It’s in Staverton, near Daventry in Northamptonshire.

Ed and Louise wanted their day to be very relaxed and very ‘them’ and chose teepees instead of a traditional marquee for their reception. It was really exciting to see the teepees on the horizon as we arrived.

It was a beautifully sunny day and everyone seemed to really enjoy sitting on the bales of hay, drinking Corona and cloudy lemondade. It was great to photograph such a chilled out wedding. That kind of relaxed atmosphere isn’t easy to create but Ed and Louise pulled it off brilliantly.

Baby portraits – Gorgeous Grace

Isn’t she cute?! You might remember gorgeous little Grace, the daughter of one of my best friends, from her new born shoot back in May. Emma and I met up for Sunday lunch and I couldn’t resist a few new pics.

Grace is 14 weeks old now and getting cuter all the time. She has a really full head of hair which is starting to go into ringlets at the back, awww! I’m really excited to see how she grows up.

Client review | Richard & Amy

A few special words from our lovely clients Richard and Amy who had their wedding at The Old Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon

“Just wanted to say how exceptional Sarah was on our wedding day, not only the day in fact, the whole lead up to it and post the day itself. She made us feel so at ease and was so professional. We could not have asked for anyone better to photograph our special day.

“We would reccommend her to anyone. Amazing!!! Thank you once again Sarah.”
