Happy Australia Day

I had the most incredible love affair with koalas on a trip to Australia a few years ago. I haven’t shared any pictures yet; you know what they say about mechanics and cars. And there’s just soooo many pictures. But today seemed appropriate for something cute and furry.

Chicheley Hall in the snow

Getting to Chicheley Hall was something of a challenge for this shoot but so worth it. It was quite the fairytale winter scene with the frozen lake and animal tracks in the snow. I had a really fun time walking in the grounds to get these pictures. I’m a bit of a kid in the snow, the truth be known. Kelmarsh Hall wedding – James & Vikki

It was cold as cold could be for James and Vikki’s wedding on 18th December. -5 and snowing in fact. I had visions of us all freezing into Narnia-esque statues outside the church!

But whilst cold at the church, Christmas at Kelmarsh Hall is a wonderful time of year with its cosy log fires and warm welcome. The hall was filled with magic. Not to mention the 15′ft tree!

Winter wedding photography is no easy task. Lack of light is one of the biggest challenges. But you can get amazing rich tones, colours and drama in wedding photographs that isn’t possible at any other time of year. It really was a joy for Dominique (my second shooter) and I to push our cameras to their limits to capture all the important moments, unobtrusively, without flash. And I love creative use of artificial lighting to produce stylish pictures of the Bride & Groom. My favourite from James and Vikki’s wedding is the one of them by the Christmas tree. It’s so romantic. Or maybe the spotlight effect one in the Chinese room. Or perhaps the one … ;)
