Italy wedding photography part 2: the wedding

Bren and Julie’s ceremony goes down as one of my favourites.

They had ‘officially’ married earlier in the week at the town hall, which is a requirement of the local marriage laws. So the ceremony at Villa Giona was more of a celebration and confirmation of their marriage and could be exactly as they wanted.

They chose a fairly traditional order of service. A string quartet entertained the guests while awaiting the Bride. And Julie, who looked stunning in a Jenny Packham dress, walked down the beautifully flower clad aisle to a harpist. Bren’s Dad was the officiant which made everyone feel really relaxed. Instead of hymns some very talented friends sang their hearts out. The bridal party’s creation and reading of ‘love is…’ quotes went down a storm with a few tears and much laughter. Bren and Julie then exchanged a collection of gifts, brought to them by the children at the wedding. These gifts were small things that had significant personal meaning to them, such as their baby daughter’s first pair of shoes to represent what a wonderful father Julie thinks Bren is. In place of the register singing, Julie had created a wedding ‘book’ which contained all the words, readings and songs from their ceremony, which they signed as a lasting memory of their day.

Italy wedding photography part 1: The BBQ

Travelling to Italy with good friend and fellowess photographer Rosie, to shoot Bren and Julie’s gorgeous wedding in Italy, was such a career highlight.

The celebrations were held over two days at the beautiful Villa Giona, a 16th century villa in the famous wine producing area of Valpolicella. Rosie and I were so excited when we arrived. The villa itself is spectacular and the scenery just stunning with beautiful gardens, fountains, olive groves, plane trees and vineyards full of ripe grapes. Bliss. Except for the heat … it was seriously HOT shooting at 100mph in the scorching sun!

A relaxed BBQ the day before the wedding kicked things off in style and gave us a chance to explore the venue and get to know some of the guests before the wedding.
