Family portraits – Cliff, Beth and Jack
I spent a lovely Sunday morning capturing some family photos for Cliff and Beth last week, whose wedding I photographed almost two years ago now. It was great to see them again and to meet their new son Jack too.
One of the things that sticks in my memory about Beth is her beautiful smile. A smile which Jack has clearly inherited! He’s such a happy little chap and it was lovely to hear him giggling so much.

Portraits with Hannah at a derelict factory
I adore a bit of wedding pretty. But some grit, grunge and flaking paint makes my heart beat a little faster too. It’s the intriguing story of unexpected locations and the texture of weathered and decaying backgrounds that I like.
So when fellow photographer Nigel asked if I was interested in a shoot at an abandoned factory I was instantly sold.
It has to be said that we skipped the health and safety check at the beginning. Well, Nigel forgot his clipboard. And I didn’t dare try the stairs, tread or climb on anything. So I shouldn’t really have been surprised that I actually came away cleaner than I usually return from a portrait session!
Hannah our model was a trooper and got stuck right in. In the filing cabinet that is.

Pet photography – Leo
So something a little different … portraits with Leo, a completely loveable labrador. Not my usual subject but when previous wedding clients Ben and Amy asked if I could help out with a Christmas present for Amy’s parents, who was I to resist making a new furry friend?
Anyone who has been photographed by me will know that I direct quite carefully, even for the photos that ‘look’ unposed. So you can imagine how far out of my comfort zone I am with pet photography! Getting a dog to be still, with paws in the right place and looking in just the right direction was never going to happen. But oh how we tried! And laughed!
The trick, I found, was something that you do all the time as a wedding photographer: predict what might happen and get there before it happens. All I had to do was create some situations, where the light and backgrounds were good, for Leo to be Leo.
This, my favourite from the session, was taken in the split second before Leo came bounding full pelt towards me!

Children’s portrait photography – Callum, Georgia, Jamie & Lola
I first photographed Lola back in March, just a few weeks after she was born. Now here we are a short six months later and she’s grown so much. Lola’s cousins Callum (5) & Jamie (1) [they're brothers] and Georgia (3) joined us for this shoot. I had great fun trying to get photos of all four of them together. You can imagine!

Pet photography – Ben, Amy and Harry
‘They’ say you should never work with animals. But Harry was the perfect model!
Harry is the beautiful pooch of Ben and Amy, who are getting married at Notley Abbey later this year. He’s such a big part of their lives that we did two pre-wedding shoots – one for just the two of them, which allowed them to focus on learning how to stand etc, and one with Harry, so that he could also share in the wedding preparations. Armed with plenty of treats we went for a walk at a local park and created some gorgeous family photos, my favourite of which is the last in this set where Harry is laying amongst the leaves. The colours tone together so beautifully.
