Carys & Austin’s spring wedding at Rushton Hall

May 2, 2013

Austin & Carys were one of our first couples to book for 2013 and the first of several weddings at Rushton Hall this April.

March’s apocalyptic weather looked set to continue for the day so I was all prepared with wellies and umbrellas. I didn’t expect to be battling bright sunshine.

It was even warm enough for Abby and I to sit outside during dinner. We sat on the wall in the courtyard basking in the warmth and excitedly tucking in to our trio of ever so scrumptious desserts. Win!

About Austin & Carys

Austin, Carys and I met at one of Rushton Hall’s wedding open days. I loved how much they adored Rushton Hall. It has obvious wow factor but it already held special memories for them because Austin proposed to Carys by the lake there.

Austin & Carys’ son Rhys took his role as ring bearer oh so seriously and kept a very protective eye on the rings as I photographed them! He made sure I didn’t get carried away with my photographer thing and get them dirty & had me polishing them to remove my fingerprints!

Later in the day he was very much the fun loving boy haring around enjoying the reception. We managed to coax him into stopping for some photos with Austin & Carys after dinner. It was really lovely to see the three of them laughing together. A fab little team on a life long adventure.

Emotions were in full flow. Austin set the tone for the day welling up outside the church within a few minutes of arriving, which I’m sure put everyone else at ease to cry too. It was wonderful to see how touched Austin & Carys were to have their family & friends rooting for them.

Austin & Carys’ wedding style

Austin and Carys chose a classic white colour palette. The different textures in the flowers, the glass of the candleabra, ribbons and layered card in the stationery worked brilliantly to soften the effect, making the look romantic and elegant.

The florals are by Julie Anna Flowers who we work alongside more often than any other florist. It’s become quite funny and we just laugh every time we see each other now!

My favourite photos from the day

Carys got ready at her parents’ house where we were all well looked after with mugs of Earl Grey and warm croissants with jam. My very favourite hair & make-up artist Toni was full of fun as ever.

Austin & Carys had their wedding ceremony at Podington church. Podington is incredibly picturesque with chocolate box cottages and pretty gardens. I just had a challenge to avoid the mammoth sandbags in the churchyard!

The ceremony itself started nervously and formally but everyone soon relaxed as the Vicar showed his nerves by forgetting the second hymn. And the third. And getting the ring exchange the wrong way around! It was a bit higgledy piggeldy but those moments are what make the memories and Austin & Carys were very married all the same.

The reception was at Rushton Hall, one of my favourite Northamptonshire wedding venues. A wedding here never disappoints.

Portraits in the spot by the lake where Austin asked Carys to marry him were a must. It was very special going with them back to where their marriage started.

The rich wood panelled library was the setting for the wedding breakfast. It’s a cosy but grand room. The speeches were as emotional as the ceremony. I wish I could bottle the atmosphere in a room when someone gets that lump in throat moment during the speeches.

The evening party was held in the cellar bar and the jazz band sounded amazing. One of the hardest things about being a wedding photographer is the long day but good music in the evening always gives me a new lease of energy.

Tips for couples planning a similar wedding

  1. Have funky wellies and nice umbrellas to hand that will look good in your photos in case it rains/snows/sleets/hails
  2. Give your wedding photographer a copy of the order of service for your ceremony so that they know what’s happening when. It’s not always the same
  3. Wear your heart on your sleeve. Real honest emotions make the best wedding photographs
  4. Tell your wedding photographer what it is that you love about your wedding venue so that they can make sure that aspect or locations come across in your photos

Have you booked Rushton Hall for your big day?

Yassss! It’s fabulous, isn’t it? I love it so much.

It was, wasn’t it? Austin and Carys would have made their own sunshine but it was lovely to have such a beautiful spring day. And as always I loved listening to you guys playing!
