Becoming a climate positive wedding photographer
There are loads of reasons why I love being a wedding photographer… The love stories (be still, my heart). The wedding cake (drool). Capturing someone’s most precious memories (life goals achieved).
… And spending tonnes of time immersed in the UK countryside.
Road-tripping through sleepy villages (avec snacks) soaking in the stunning scenery is one of my favourite things to do. Plus, I get to call it ‘work’ – how lucky am I?
And when it comes to my clients, I’m hugely grateful to nature for giving so much.
Seeking out pretty photo backdrops is a cinch – because I’m never far from pretty flowers, a lake or scenic views. And then there are the trees – which provide delicious shade to keep guests cool during group photos on sweltering days, and shelter under when the heavens open mid-way through a couple’s portrait photos.
Yep. I’m blessed. Working – and living – on this earth is a precious gift.
But this gift comes at a cost. Which is why I’ve chosen to partner with Ecologi to give back, do my bit to protect our planet, and preserve it for future generations.
Meet SVP’s climate change hero
I once felt pretty helpless about making any kind of difference on my own. I’m just one person, and the thought of making a positive impact seemed impossible.
But here’s the thing: small actions add up. It’s not about grand gestures. It’s about making considered and consistent contributions, which all add up to bigger things, like making our earth happier and healthier.
And with Ecologi, I’m not alone. They’ve brought together a community that cares as much as I do.
In a nutshell, I pay a small amount every month, which Ecologi combines with all its other subscribers, to plant trees and tackle carbon reduction projects. Which helps undo years of carbon damage. Amazing! And easy!
They’re a great brand – relatable, responsible and open. They make things easy to understand, send regular email updates and even post receipts online so you can see where the money is going.
Plus, more trees = more homes for animals. AND you get extra trees on your birthday. This is something I can really get behind!
Some cool stuff they’ve achieved so far:
Planted over four million trees. Over the next 25 years, that’ll save around 700,000 tonnes of CO2. The same amount that burning 1.8 million barrels of oil produces.
Prevented nearly 100,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. That’s equivalent to taking 21,000 cars off the road.
Pretty cool, right? And they only started a year ago.
Oct 2022 update: They’ve now funded 50 million trees! That’s a reduction of 2.3 million tonnes of CO2e. Wowsers!
Feb 2023 update: Nearly 60 million trees planted and 2.5 million tonnes of verified CO2e saved! Collective action, y’all.
Curious about SVP’s contribution so far?
Okay, I’m going to nerd out here, but being able to actually see the results of my small part is so rewarding. I love taking a virtual walk in my Ecologi forest, and watching it grow.
Some SVP Ecologi highlights over the last ten months three years:
- Planted
nearly 300over 650 trees (without even getting dirty or breaking a nail) - Offset
1034.45 tonnes of CO2
That carbon is equivalent to:
Nine26 long-haul flights- Nearly
30k85k miles driven in a car - Saving
3521032 metres of sea ice

Curious about Ecologi (and how you can help fix the planet)?
Yay – you’re in good company!
Follow this link to check it out. And if you sign up using that link, we’ll both get 30 sparkly trees in our forest. Please someone do it – I wanna see what the sparkly trees look like!
