A classically elegant Cotswolds wedding

Are you planning a wedding at the beautiful Cornwell Manor? Or maybe you’re searching for classic manor house wedding inspiration? This post might be exactly what your Pinterest boards and daydreams are calling for! After a calm and cosy winter in bear-mode, I dusted off the camera and skipped into Spring with a creative day ahead of wedding season. And the results? A treasure trove of styling ideas for an English countryside wedding as timeless as Jane Austen and as fresh as Bridgerton Season 3.

Why Cornwell Manor is basically wedding heaven

Cornwell is located between Chipping Norton and Stow on the Wold in the Cotswolds. (And it’s conveniently close to Daylesford Farm – you’ve been warned!)

The quintessentially English country manor house is privately-owned, which makes it feel both grand and deeply personal. And being nestled in 2000 acres of grounds, you’re immersed in leafy serenity. Cornwell Manor exudes warmth and romance. Fun fact: it was the backdrop for Amanda and Graham’s iconic date in The Holiday. So yes, romance is in the air.

If you want a whole weekend of celebration, Cornwell Manor is your home away from home. Imagine welcoming your guests with a Friday evening dinner, saying “I do” on Saturday, and then topping it all off with a relaxed Sunday BBQ and pool party. Everything here is entirely bespoke, so you can design a weekend wedding as unique as you.

Some of my favourite features? The charming church in the grounds, the unusually light and airy ballroom for dinner, and the ivy-clad facade of the house which begs to be your photo backdrop. And that’s just the beginning – there’s so much to love about this place, it’s almost unfair.

Styling inspiration: Bridgerton meets the Cotswolds in 2024

If the idea of contemporary-Bridgerton styling in the Cotswolds countryside excites you, you’re in for a treat. Let’s set the scene at Cornwell Manor:

  • The dress: Layla wore a gown that was the perfect balance of chic simplicity and playful detail, with graceful sleeves, a bold bow, and a regal tiara. Her soft, polished hair and makeup paired beautifully with a delicate lily of the valley bouquet, the epitome of spring elegance.
  • The flower girls: Adorable doesn’t even begin to cover it. Think fresh flower crowns and giggles aplenty.
  • The tablescape: A maximalist masterpiece done simply. Layers of lace-edged crockery, fresh white florals in bud vases, twinkling candlelight, glowing lamps, and cut glass stemware combined for a cosy-yet-elevated vibe. And all framed by a sweeping fresh foliage and white flower arch. Incredible.
  • The stationery: A tactile dream! Layers of thick, uncoated paper, gold foil, and sweet-pea silhouettes (pressed from real flowers!) mixed with vellum wraps and silk ribbons to create something extra special.
  • The cake: Reminiscent of Wedgwood pottery and so stunning you’d almost feel bad cutting into it. Almost.
  • The car: Icy-blue and convertible. Need I say more? (OK, I will: it was effortless cool on wheels.)

Yes, me and my camera had the time of our lives!

Capturing the magic – my approach

Authenticity is everything to me. So while this was an organised photoshoot, I approached the photos just as I would for a real wedding – with a relaxed, truthful style. That meant very lightly directed couple shots of Layla and Chris which gave them enough room to be themselves and allowed me to capture photos of real moments that are full of feeling. I caught light-hearted spontaneous moments of the flower girls playing in the same way. And, of course, it wouldn’t be me without masses and masses of beautiful details too!
