James & Susie’s wedding at Stoke Rochford Hall
James and Susie got married at Stoke Rochford Hall with a civil ceremony in the orangery, drinks & canapes on the lawn and dinner in the library. They both got ready there, too. Having everything in one place makes for a really relaxing day because there are no logistics to worry about. And it means maximum time having fun!
Stoke Rochford Hall is incred. It’s set in acres of countryside near Grantham in Lincolnshire. The drive into the estate is serene; you follow a winding lane, feeling like you’re in another world as you go over a sweet stone humpback bridge, passing ancient oak trees, a waterfall and fields of sheep before driving through ornate wrought iron gates into the courtyard with the imposing mansion coming into view straight ahead. It’s a dream.
There are three things I particularly loved about James and Susie’s wedding:
- All the dogs
- The high energy
- The cake
… in that order!
Dogs are family & weddings are family occasions
Anyone who has seen me when there’s a dog around will know exactly how much I loved this wedding!
I knew James and Susie’s 16-week old puppy Benny Bear (a bear-coat Shar Pei) would be attending. In fact, Susie had me at “Are you okay with a dog around?” in her first email to me!
However, I didn’t expect all the wedding guests to have their dogs with them too. Imagine my wide eyes and sharp intakes of breath when I saw pup after pup! eeeek! Hats off to Stoke Rochford Hall for being so dog-friendly.
It was so nice to see everyone’s dogs taking a seat for the ceremony, enjoying the gardens during the drinks reception and snoring under the tables during dinner. The best bit? When everyone cheered and clapped just as James & Susie were pronounced husband & wife and the dogs barked the Hall down! That was brilliant!
Fun all the way
James and Susie’s wedding was charismatic, lively and totally fun. It was an intimate day with their closest family and best friends. James and Susie were really inclusive and made sure everyone felt welcome and was having a ball (including me which was really nice).
The energy was super high all day and I was blown away with how James made the humble list of Groom’s thank you’s so exciting with his “come on down” style speech. That was genius and really set the tone for the party to follow.
Another favourite moment was when James gave Susie a wedding gift during his speech. It was something very sparkly! Her expression when she opened the box was a picture. A picture that’s below, in fact.
And the cake?
That’s a Choccywoccydoodah. James and Susie asked the Choccy team to create something that incorporated their pets (two dogs & two lovebirds) and that fitted in with their wedding decor. So a chocolatey candelabra creation (that you could actually light!) it was. Utterly fabulous.
Are you planning a wedding at Stoke Rochford Hall?
I’d love to hear from you if you are. In the meantime, here’s another wedding I shot at Stoke Rochford Hall.
