Kilworth House Leicestershire wedding | Sam & Rich

Rich and Sam got married at Kilworth House, which is an opulent country house hotel in Leicestershire with lashings of period charm and character. I loved it. And it was extra special because their day was just the kind of wedding I love to shoot – classic but laid-back and fun – and even the (very heavy) rain didn’t dampen the day!

Why Kilworth House is a great place to get married

Kilworth House is luxurious with a laid-back vibe, and is one of the best places to get married in Leicestershire. The venue offers an amazing atmosphere for a wedding – and there so many incredible backdrops that are ideal for photos.

The ceremony

Sam and Rich had a civil wedding ceremony in the stunning Orangery which is a Victorian work of art. They decorated the room with an abundance of flowers and individual touches like personalised tissues and his/her confetti cones, which I loved. The light in the orangery is plentiful, even on a dark rainy day, making it a dream for wedding photography.

After the ceremony

The couple had drinks and canapes in the afternoon, and a live mariachi band in the evening. The mariachi was incredible fun. But my favourite thing (as anyone who knows me will guess) was a guest appearance from Sam’s gorgeous dog, Alfie. Kilworth House isn’t dog-friendly but he was given a special pass for some outside photos! For dinner, they had a slap-up meal, and the first dance was a good old traditional wedding shuffle with a confetti cannon finale. They finished off the evening with fireworks.

The couple

Rich wore a dapper dark grey morning suit and Sam wore a timeless lace fishtail gown and they looked really incredible together. I must make a special mention of Sam’s ‘something blue’ shoes too – so glam!

Sam and Rich got in touch with me just as Daisy joined the family. Daisy was barking her head off from the kitchen as they arrived for their consultation, demanding to join in. Sam & Rich assured me they were very happy to have her around, so out came Little Miss Sociable, making her debut as an SVP pup. She happily sat on Sam’s lap, listening intently to me waffling on about photography, her head tilting for emphasis at all the important points. Nothing much has changed since!

Sam and Rich said that they wanted a relaxed wedding photographer, natural photos, a fun day and they seemed to love dogs as much as me – what more could I ask for?

Advice for planning your wedding at Kilworth House

If you’re looking for a wedding venue in South Leicestershire that’s pretty much perfect whatever the weather, then Kilworth House is well worth a look. Exclusive hire is definitely worth having because of the flexibility it gives you for both candid and portraits/group photos.

Sam and Rich’s wedding day was really rainy but there were so many super spots with lovely light and brilliant backgrounds inside that not being able to get into the grounds was no disappointment. In fact, it probably made life easier because the gardens are stunning too and we’d have had an even tougher time trying to narrow down where to go for the portraits and group photos!

It’s full of opportunities for wedding photography, far more than you could incorporate into one wedding day, so I’d love to go back and make more of it.
