St Tewdrics House wedding | Matt & Hannah

PLANNING A WEDDING AT ST TEWDRICS HOUSE IN CHEPSTOW? YOU’LL LOVE THIS FUN-FILLED GIN-INFUSED WEDDING FOR INSPO!

Matt and Hannah had a church wedding followed by a reception at St Tewdrics House, which is a beautiful country house in Chepstow, South Wales.

St Tewdrics isn’t your typical period venue with dark interiors and imposing features. Oh no. It brings classical architecture and contemporary style together. And it gets bonus points for also having gorgeous grounds and stunning views over the Severn estuary – you can even see the bridge!

If you’re a fan of the luxurious and calm simplicity of brands like Cox and Cox and The White Company, you’ll love St Tewdrics House.

St Tewdrics House wedding photography

Matt and Hannah wanted a relaxed photographer to capture all the fun of their day. Apart from a few family photos and ten minutes of photos of the two of them, they wanted everything captured candidly, which is just how I like it. The energy was sky-high all day long, making it one of the most fun weddings I’ve had the pleasure of photographing. Ideal clients right there!

The preparations

Hannah spent the wedding morning getting ready at her family home in Caerleon in Newport while Matt and his Groomsmen got ready at The Priory Hotel just over the road.

Both locations were within walking distance of their church – which is a really good plan in my book! Minimal travel means maximum time to get ready, taking off some of the inevitable pressure of getting to church on time.

The ceremony

The ceremony took place at St Cadocs church.

As always, capturing everyone arriving for the ceremony was one of my favourite parts of the day. It was jam-packed with excitement between family and friends greeting each other and enjoying the build-up to Hannah’s arrival.

During the ceremony, Matt and Hannah couldn’t stop looking at each other and fiddling with their new rings. It was so lovely to witness and share that moment with them.

St Tewdrics House wedding reception

Matt and Hannah wanted nothing more than a big party so really went to town on making sure everyone had a great time, with tasty food, delicious drinks, and live music!

The afternoon kicked off with drinks and canapes on the lawn to the sound of a string quartet… followed by his/her gin and tonics, an ice cream van and saxophonist on the patio after dinner… then dancing, cheese and biscuits, and cake all round in the evening. A great day right there!

Three things I love about weddings at St Tewdrics House

  1. The layout. St Tewdrics is flexible with several spaces that you can use pretty much as you wish. But at the same time, everything is close to hand so no-one is ever far away. Yep, it’s spacious but intimate. Which is particularly handy when it comes to finding people for group photos!
  2. The laid-back vibe. With exclusive use of the venue, St Tewdrics is your home for the day. You can have the wedding you want, rather than having to fit in with standard processes and procedures. Which means a more personal and relaxed day – and photos.
  3. The look and feel. I love how the original period features and contemporary luxury decor come together. The simple, neutral and luxurious decor suits any taste and theme, from glam to rustic. As a photographer though, the abundance of natural light flooding in through huge feature windows is the biggest draw.

But of course, I wouldn’t recommend any venue if it didn’t also have incredible backdrops that are great for both natural and posed photos. And St Tewdrics certainly has it all – amazing architecture, rustic stone walls, long grasses, landscape views…

And I can’t finish without mentioning ‘The Tower’ … the most romantic bridal suite I’ve seen so far -complete with marshmallow-bed in the turret. I’d very happily move in!

St Tewdrics really is one of the best places to get married in Chepstow.
